Dr. Phil will no longer be broadcasting.

Dr. Phil McGraw’s long-running daytime talk program will stop after its 21st season in 2022-2023.

McGraw quit the show in 2018 after signing a five-year contract with CBS Media Ventures. During the upcoming 2023-24 season, the syndication corporation is scheduled to offer networks the option of showing previously recorded episodes.

“I have been fortunate with over 25 amazing years in daytime television,” McGraw stated.

“With our show, we have assisted tens of thousands of guests and millions of viewers with difficulties ranging from mental health to parenting, addiction, and marriage.” This has been an amazing time in my life and work, but even as I leave the daylight, there is still so much I want to accomplish.”

According to CBS Media Ventures, McGraw will soon announce details of a “strategic primetime partnership” that will allow him to “increase his effect on television and audiences.”

The project will make its premiere next year.

“I am deeply concerned about the American family, and I am determined to help restore a sense of purpose and our core values,” McGraw concluded. “I feel driven to reach a wider audience.”

According to CBS insiders who talked with Variety, McGraw has been focusing on producing scripted projects and presenting two podcasts, Mystery & Murder: Analysis by Dr. Phil and Phil in the Blanks.

McGraw’s television career took off in the 1990s, when he frequently appeared as a guest expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show. In the later half of 2002, he debuted his show. He has moderated over 4,000 shows, hosted over 20,000 guests, and received over 5 million audience letters.

Dr. Phil has 2 million viewers per episode on average, making it the second-most-watched talk program. According to Variety, the current number one show is Live with Kelly and Ryan.

“Although Phil’s program may be ending after 21 years, I’m thrilled to announce our connection will continue,” CBS Media Ventures President Steve LoCascio said of McGraw’s decision.

“Phil altered the everyday landscape as the driving force behind one of daytime television’s most watched conversation shows,” he continued. “We aim to continue our Dr. Phil relationship with the library for many years to come and welcome any future collaborative opportunities,” said the library.

The Wendy Williams Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dr. Oz, and The Real are also ending, and McGraw’s exit coincides with that.
