Shirley Temple’s lovely face and famous curls are impossible to forget. She appeared in a number of blockbuster films and even won awards for her efforts.

Did you know she was an entrepreneur, ambassador, and mother of three? Unfortunately, the renowned Hollywood personality died in 2014 at the age of 85 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was surrounded by her loving family when she died away from her California home because she meant so much to so many people.

This year, on the day she would have turned 90, a great crowd came to pay tribute to her. Her children have given us an intriguing glimpse into what this cinema superstar was like as a mother.

Shirley Temple Black was an actress, singer, dancer, businesswoman, and ambassador from the United States.

She was the most well-known child performer between 1935 and 1938, appearing in various films such as Curly Top and Heidi.

She began her profession when she was only three years old. Her cinematic fame began to wane when she was a teenager. She quit acting at the age of 22, only to return eight years later.

Shirley was an activist in addition to serving as the American ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia. She was also the Chief of Protocol for the United States.

She had three children from her previous marriages: Lori Black, Linda Susan Agar, and Charles Alden Black Jr. Lori Black, her second marriage’s daughter, acquired a heroin addiction in the late 1980s.

Lori, also known as Lorax, was a musician who played bass for the bands “Clown Alley” and “Melvins.” Lori pleaded to narcotics possession at the age of 39 and was sentenced to a two-year probationary period, 120 hours of community service, and a fine. Lori was also required to attend drug counseling sessions.

Her mother Shirley was instrumental in her recovery by arranging for everyone in the family to attend these sessions with her so she didn’t feel alone.

Shirley’s family and supporters gathered in 2018 to celebrate her 90th birthday.

Growing up with the famous figure, her son Charles Black says, “The only time I saw her star quality was when someone else would beg for her autograph.” She was a wonderful lady. She was great — and very normal. Every night, we ate dinner together at the table.”

Linda Susan Agar, Shirley’s daughter, added, “Mom was loving and generous, and she could be a little severe if we didn’t behave.” She was, however, a lot of fun. Very creative and original. She was preoccupied with her children and her husband.”

There was no one like her mother, according to Susan.

“We had a great time decorating the dining room.” Her biggest accomplishment is being a wife and mother. We were shopping and traveling companions. We traveled to a lot of locations together. She was one of my closest pals…”
