President Trump Uses Controversial Language in Thanksgiving Message

In a late-night Thanksgiving message, President Trump reignited some of his familiar and harsh rhetoric on immigration. His message included sharp criticism of political rivals and a call for a permanent halt on migration from what he labeled as “all Third World Countries.”

Trump kicked off his post on Truth Social with a typical holiday greeting, but quickly shifted into a lengthy discussion on immigration, the rising crime rates, and criticism of his political adversaries.

The catalyst for Trump’s proposed pause on migration was reportedly a tragic shooting incident in Washington, D.C., where the suspect was identified as an Afghan national. Trump suggested lenient immigration policies were the root cause and criticized โ€œAmerican Citizens and Patriots for allowing our Country to be divided, disrupted, carved up.โ€

At 79, Trump revisited some of his past talking points, particularly concerning Somalia and Somali communities in Minnesota. During an interview earlier that day, he remarked, “Somalians have caused a lot of trouble,” and asserted, “Weโ€™re not accepting their people anymore; weโ€™re sending many of them back because they only bring problems.”

Continuing his argument, Trump painted Minnesota as a “hub of fraudulent money laundering activity” and argued that Somali refugees were significantly impacting the state.

Trump’s Slur Against Gov. Tim Walz

In a particularly inflammatory portion of his message, President Trump used a derogatory term to criticize Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Frustrated with what he viewed as overly accommodating immigration policies, Trump referred to Walz as “The seriously r******d Governor of Minnesota,” suggesting inaction due to “fear, incompetence, or both.”

Governor Walz responded promptly on X, remarking “Release the MRI results,” alluding to Trump’s previous indication that he had undergone an MRI without sharing further detail.

Twitter post: “Donald Trump finally posts a Thanksgiving message โ€” and uses it to call Governor Tim Walz ‘seriously retarded.’”

Criticism of Rep. Ilhan Omar and Immigration Policies

Trump turned his sights on Minnesota Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, a Somali-born politician who has lived in the U.S. for three decades. He criticized her attire, stating she is “always wrapped in her swaddling hijab,” and derided her homeland as “decadent, backward, and crime-ridden.” He accused Omar of being ungrateful to America.

Trump also addressed immigration for the recent incident in D.C., blaming policies that allowed the suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan refugee granted asylum in 2025, into the country.

When a journalist mentioned that federal agencies assured rigor in vetting Afghan arrivals, Trump dismissed the question, calling them “stupid,” and sidestepped confirming the asylum’s approval timeline.

Proposals for a Migration Freeze and Comprehensive Immigration Review

In his message, Trump stated that many immigrants come from “failed nations or prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels” and depend on what he claimed were “massive” welfare benefits. Therefore, he called for a “permanent pause” on migration from “Third World countries,” arguing this step was necessary to “allow the U.S. system to fully recover.”

Trump further proposed that his administration would focus on deporting immigrants regarded as security risks, public charges, or “non-compatible with Western Civilization,โ€ committing to “REVERSE MIGRATION” as the only solution.

Earlier that day, Trump directed a thorough review of all green card holders from “countries of concern.” The Citizenship and Immigration Services Director, Joseph Edlow, declared this reexamination would be “full-scale,” emphasizing that American safety was “non-negotiable.”

Wrapping up his holiday message, Trump wrote, “Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for โ€” You wonโ€™t be here for long!”
