Charlotte Brosnan is the adoptive daughter of actor Pierce Brosnan and Cassandra Harris. She battled ovarian cancer, the same disease that killed her mother and grandmother, for three years before passing away at the age of 41. She, on the other hand, lived life on her own terms. Pierce Brosnan escorted her down the aisle when she married artist Alex Smith in 2013. Nevertheless, she succumbed to cancer only two weeks later.

“It wasn’t the day to be depressed.”
Cassandra Harris, Charlotte’s mother, married Pierce Brosnan in 1980. Pierce adopted Charlotte and her brother Christopher after their real father, Dermot Harris, died in 1986. Cassandra was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1987, the same disease that killed her mother. Cassandra died in 1991, when she was 43 years old.

Charlotte apparently succumbed to melancholy and addiction after witnessing her mother battle a painful, then terminal disease. She entered a rehab center in 2003 to recover from her drug and alcohol addiction. She began her career as an actress, appearing in an episode of NYPD Blue as well as the films The Disappearance of Kevin Johnson and The Nephew. Her career, however, was cut short when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She battled through the rigorous treatments, yet she remained upbeat.

Charlotte married Alex Smith in a private wedding attended only by close friends and family members shortly before her death. Despite Charlotte’s grave sickness, a family friend described the ceremony as wonderful. “It was the most moving day of my life,” she says. It wasn’t the day to be depressed. Alex and Pierce were both beaming.”

Charlotte died on June 28, 2013, in London, accompanied by her family, including her two children, Lucas and Isabella. Pierce afterwards issued a statement paying honor to her. “On June 28th, my beloved daughter Charlotte Emily went to eternal life after succumbing to ovarian cancer,” he added. “…Charlotte fought her cancer with uncommon elegance and humanism, courage, and dignity. Our hearts are crushed with the loss of our precious little baby. We pray for her and hope that a treatment for this dreadful sickness will be found soon. We appreciate everyone’s genuine condolences.”

Pierce Brosnan is an actor. Remembers Charlotte
Loved ones may have passed away, but they are never forgotten. Pierce Brosnan paid tribute to his daughter on Instagram on the seventh anniversary of her death in 2020. “Here’s gazing at you baby… in memory of Charlotte,” Pierce wrote with a photo of the James Bond star sitting on his veranda at his Hawaii home, snapped by his wife Keely Shaye Smith. “And with best wishes for Marley May’s birthday.” Through his son Sean, Charlotte’s half-brother, she is his granddaughter.

Charlotte died at around the same age as her mother. At the time, Charlotte’s children were roughly the same age as Charlotte and Christopher. Although the comparisons are unpleasant to consider, Charlotte’s close friend, Clare Beckwith, has discovered a positive parallel. Charlotte had loved and influenced her children in the same way that her mother had done for her.

“To their mother, Bella and Lucas were the pinnacle,” Beckwith said. “They have always got that for the rest of their life, that their mum just worshipped them. When people asked her why she didn’t pursue acting, she always said, ‘No, this is my family.’ She wanted to shower as much affection on her family as she could. She was completely dedicated to them.”

Pierce spoke out about the agony of losing his wife and children at a Stand Up To Cancer telethon in 2014. “Watching someone you care about have his or her life eaten away little by bit by this insidious sickness becomes an indelible part of your mind,” he said. “I held my first wife Cassie’s generous, strong, and beautiful hand as ovarian cancer took her life far too soon. Just last year, I held the hand of my gorgeous, witty daughter Charlotte before she died of this dreadful genetic disease.”

“Go out there and do good.”
Pierce had admired Charlotte’s lively, joyful demeanor, according to Brosnan’s old friend Nancy Ellison. He even dubbed her the “custodian of laughing.” “Pierce wrote to me after she died that the most intense memory he had was of always being able to make Charlotte laugh,” Ellison continued. He wished to be able to make her laugh once more.”

Pierce Brosnan is now recovering from his grief with the aid of his wife, Keely. They married in 2001 after meeting in 1994 and have two boys. “You must trust and follow your heart,” Pierce remarked in 2018. “Furthermore, try to meet the best people you can. I get faint when Keely looks at me. I admire her vitality and passion. She possesses a strength that I could not live without… Keely is a wonderful woman. I couldn’t find one as good even if I looked a million times. Every day and with each passing year, you learn a new lesson. It’s critical to believe in yourself and to get to know oneself as much as possible before venturing out into the world to accomplish good.”
