“To all moms everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mothers today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a happy #MothersDay,” King Charles said in a message on Sunday.

On his first Mother’s Day without Queen Elizabeth, King Charles remembers her with a sweet throwback photo.

Charles, 74, shared an image of him and the late Queen, who died in September 2022 at the age of 96, in a new Instagram post uploaded via the Royal Family’s official account.

The article also included a photograph of Queen Camilla and her mother, Rosalind Shand, who passed away in 1994.

The first image, courtesy of the Royal Collection Trust, shows an infant King Charles and a young Queen Elizabeth happily holding him in her lap. The other image depicts the Queen Consort, 75, smiling with her mother.

Together with the photographs, the couple added a heartfelt note commemorating their mothers and all mothers on Mothering Sunday, which is observed in the United Kingdom this year on March 19.

“To all moms everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mothers today,” they added.

The message from the British royals comes as Charles and Camilla continue to carry on Queen Elizabeth’s legacy, not just through their words, but also via their clothing.

Earlier this week, the Queen Consort attended the annual Commonwealth Day Service, where she wore a sapphire and diamond brooch owned to her mother-in-law. A sleek black Launer purse, a name widely linked with Queen Elizabeth since the 1970s, complemented the ensemble.

The Queen previously used a purse from the brand for her most recent engagement, when she appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss at Balmoral Castle on September 6. Launer CEO Gerald Bodmer told PEOPLE shortly after that the gesture had honored him and his team.

“I’m shocked she carried her suitcase with a walking stick,” commented Bodmer at the time. “She once told me, ‘I don’t feel clothed unless I have a purse.’”
