Sir Isaac Newton is a well-known scientist. We all remember Einstein as the man who discovered gravitational laws and is considered the founder of modern physics and calculus. He did, however, attempt to predict the end of the world statistically. His forecast? We have until 2060. That’s true, there are just about 40 years remaining.

Issac Newton predicted the end of the world in 2060.
It would be an understatement to say Issac Newton was obsessed with science. He was a crazy professor who was known to risk his own eyesight to do experiments. Sticking a needle in his eye to understand more about the nature of light was one of them, as was staring into a solar eclipse for an extended period of time to investigate the affects on human eyes. A little insane? It appears so. But is he also a true genius? This is unarguable.

Though he is well-known for his contributions to mathematics, his true passion was alchemy. He examined it on a regular basis, hoping to construct something like to Harry Potter’s philosopher’s stone, which could turn things into gold or multiply gold. He also utilized his research to try to forecast the end of the planet. According to his forecasts, the world as we know it would end in a blaze in the year 2060.

Why 2060?
Newton studied biblical and religious materials in depth. He used those passages, together with mathematics, to produce a forecast as to when the world will end, or “when the kingdom of God would prevail on Earth”. He referred to it as a reset, rather than the end of the world. In any case, his forecasts do not appear to be particularly joyful for any humans living on Earth at the time.

“Newton spent a significant lot of time with the study of religious books and tried to establish a chronology of previous events to get all those stories sorted and into… “He was sure that God had already predetermined future events. Newton derived various ‘prophetic’ time periods from the Bible. For him, 2060 “would be a fresh beginning, perhaps accompanied by conflict and disaster, but eventually the beginning of a new divine period.”

Newton passed away in March 1727. Naturally, predicting the end of the world about 300 years later didn’t seem like such a huge thing to him. After all, it was a long way away at the time! But, we are now less than 40 years away from this alleged date. It has certainly given some individuals cause for alarm.

This isn’t the first time someone has predicted the end of the world.
We are all aware that Isaac Newton is not the first individual or group of people to forecast the end of the world. For example, there was Y2K in 1999, when many people believed that the world would end the minute the clock struck midnight, signaling the end of the 1900s and the start of the 2000s. This, as we can see, was inaccurate. The Mayans made the next incorrect prediction. The Mayan calendar, which had been mostly accurate up to this point, came to an end in 2012. Many people believed that the Mayans were predicting the end of the world at that time. That definitely did not, once again. It is now widely assumed that the Mayan calendar ended because their civilization – and those who wrote the calendar – ended. Perhaps they simply became tired. Nobody knows. Then there’s Nostrodamus, who appears to have predicted everything.

The difference between such predictions and Isaac Newton’s is that those predictions were made on the basis of beliefs. Newton’s, on the other hand, was founded on science and mathematics. In 1704 he made the forecast. He jotted the prediction on what appeared to be a scrap of paper, as he did many of the results of his tests and study. The majority of the scraps vanished over time. But, not all were, and some question whether this one was not lost for a cause.

His Theory’s Foundation
The theory of Isaac Newton is based on the book of Daniel in the Bible. He believes the end of the world will occur exactly 1260 years after the establishment of the Holy Roman Empire. Newton also predicted that the world would end only when Jews were reintroduced to the Holy Places. This occurred following the establishment of Israel in 1948. He has also stated that, while the end could occur later, it will most likely not occur until 2060.

Is any of this true? Who really knows? Yet, a portion of his prediction is based on the Bible. This means that in order to believe Newton’s forecast, you must also believe in what is written there. Hence, while we may never truly know when the world will end, we might as well focus on living well and improving the planet while we still have it.
