If you watch the Today show on a regular basis, you’ve probably noticed that co-host Hoda Kotb has been absent from the morning show for nearly two weeks without explanation.
Her coworkers explained her absence on Wednesday.
“We understand that many of you have been asking how she [Hoda] is doing. We can assure you that Hoda is OK. “She’s been dealing with a family health issue,” Craig Melvin said Wednesday morning.
Kotb, 58, last appeared live on Today on February 17, however she did appear on a pre-recorded episode of Today with Hoda and Jenna that aired on President’s Day, February 20.
No one, even Kotb, has offered an explanation for her sudden departure since then. Supporters are left to wonder where she disappeared and what she’s been up to.
Despite her absence from the Today show, the co-host has remained active on Instagram, offering motivational messages. “Choose Hope,” her most recent song.
Some people wondered if Kotb was planning to adopt another child.
She previously took time off and began teasing the adoption in the days building up to the big reveal.
Melvin took a moment at the outset of Wednesday’s show to discuss Savannah Guthrie’s unexpected withdrawal from Tuesday’s broadcast – she tested positive for COVID – as well as Kotb’s nearly two-week hiatus.
“We indicated Savannah and Hoda are both on vacation. Savannah had returned home following a positive COVID test the day before. “We wish our pal a swift recovery,” he stated. “As for Hoda, we know many of you have been worrying about her. We can assure you that Hoda is OK. She’s been dealing with a family health issue, so we hope to see Hoda and Savannah back at the desk very, very soon.”
“We adore you both,” Al Roker continued.
Jenna Bush Hager, who was joined by Willie Geist for Today with Hoda, also assured viewers that they had heard everyone’s concerns and that Hoda was well.
“She’s just coping with a family health issue.”
Whatever Hoda is going through, I hope everything works out. I hope she realizes how many people are praying for her and her family right now.
