In any event, it’s safe to say that the Oscars have provided us with more than their fair share of memorable moments. When so many A-listers and prominent people assemble in Los Angeles for a single event, fireworks are almost guaranteed.
Still, half the pleasure is predicting what will happen. Consider Will Smith’s slap of Chris Rock a year ago, which was televised all over the world. Or how about the time Moonlight won Best Picture and La La Land’s creators didn’t find out until they were halfway through their acceptance speech?
In some respects, it’s reassuring to know that no such disaster occurred this year, but in others, it’s sad (at least not on that scale). Yet, there were a few events that generated considerable concern at home.
Lady Gaga, of pop music renown, is one such artist; her song “Hold My Hand,” from the film Top Gun: Maverick, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
The 36-year-old, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, wore a Versace gown to the Oscars red carpet, accessorized with dramatic red lipstick and smoky eyeliner.
The audience at home, however, noticed the Born This Way singer’s wardrobe change.
Gaga performed an impassioned monologue before singing “Hold My Hand,” in which she said:
“That holds significant significance for me. I believe we all need one another. We need a lot of love to traverse this planet. Everybody needs a hero now and then, and they can be found in unexpected places. Even though you feel broken on the inside, you can realize that you can be your own hero.”
Lady Gaga performed an emotional rendition of her song without her typical facial paint. Likewise, she surreptitiously changed out of the Versace gown and into a black T-shirt, ripped jeans, and Converse.
There was a lot for supporters to say, and they did.
Gaga has four Academy Award nominations, winning Best Original Song (2016 and 2019) and Best Actress (2019) for her song “Shallow” (2019).
One of Lady’s fans said after her performance, “Performance of the night. She began low and gradually increased to the original production style. We brought the belt home with us! What can you never take away from Gaga? MUSICAL DISCIPLINE is her DISCIPLINE. The woman will conceal herself for 40 days and 40 nights and master any instrument.” “Amazing, in addition to singing incredibly well, she cosplayed Ellie from The Last of Us,” said another fan. “You are just stunning when you are natural,” another fan said. “Out of this world. “Loved it stripped down wonderful voice xx,” one added. “OMG I had chillss as soon as the song started,” another user remarked.
She returned home empty-handed because she did not receive any Oscar nominations. The Best Original Song award this year awarded to “Naatu Naatu” from the film RRR.
