Embracing Our Differences

A blonde gets a new job as a physical education teacher for a group of 16-year-olds. Sheโ€™s excited but also a little nervous, wanting to make a good impression on her first day.

As she walks across the sports field, she notices a boy standing all alone at the far end, looking rather serious. Meanwhile, all the other students are running around happily, chasing a ball and laughing.

Feeling concerned, she walks over to the lonely boy.
โ€œHi there,โ€ she says kindly. โ€œAre you okay? Youโ€™re just standing here while everyone else is playing.โ€

The boy looks at her, a little puzzled, and replies,
โ€œYeah, Iโ€™m fine. Why do you ask?โ€

โ€œWell,โ€ the teacher continues with a sympathetic smile, โ€œall the other kids are running around kicking the ball and having fun, but youโ€™re just standing here all alone. Donโ€™t you want to join them?โ€

The boy sighs.
โ€œI canโ€™t,โ€ he says.

Now she feels even more concerned.
โ€œWhy not? Is something wrong? Donโ€™t you like sports? Are they not including you?โ€

The boy shakes his head.
โ€œNo, itโ€™s not thatโ€ฆโ€

She leans in, ready to give him the best motivational speech of her career.
โ€œListen,โ€ she says earnestly, โ€œsometimes itโ€™s scary to jump in and be part of the group. But you just have to believe in yourself! Donโ€™t be afraid of failing. Just go out there, kick the ball, and have some fun! I promise no one will judge you.โ€

The boy stares at her for a moment, then finally replies,
โ€œUhโ€ฆ I canโ€™t move from here because Iโ€™m the goalkeeper.โ€

The blonde freezes.
โ€œOhhhโ€ฆโ€ she says slowly, finally realizing her mistake. She laughs nervously and pats him on the shoulder. โ€œWell, in that caseโ€ฆ great job! Keep guarding that goal!โ€

Feeling a little embarrassed, she walks back toward the group. Determined not to make another silly mistake, she decides to encourage the other students.

A few minutes later, she sees two kids collide and fall dramatically to the ground. They both lie there groaning.

Rushing over, the teacher shouts, โ€œDonโ€™t worry! Donโ€™t panic! I know first aid!โ€

The kids look up at her and one of them says, โ€œGreat! Can you go get someone who really knows it?โ€
