Just For Us, featuring Brace’s longtime collaborator Alex Edelman, was set to make its Broadway bow this summer.

Adam Brace, a British playwright and director, has died. He was 43.

Brace was an associate director at Soho Theatre, which released a statement on Tuesday. “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our much-loved friend, colleague, and client Adam Brace on Saturday, April 29th,” the statement said.

“Many of his friends, colleagues, and collaborators will miss him.” Our hearts go out to them, especially his partner Becca, his mother and stepfather Nikki and Nigel, and his brothers Tim and Alex. Adam was 43 years old when he died after a brief illness.”

Just For Us, featuring Brace’s longtime collaborator Alex Edelman, was set to make its Broadway bow this summer. Edelman wrote and performed the one-man performance, which was directed by Brace.

Edelman paid tribute to Brace on Twitter, sharing a series of poignant comments alongside photos and videos of the pair.

“Adam Brace passed away on Saturday at the ludicrously unfair age of 43,” Edelman said. “For more than a decade, he was my closest collaborator, but more importantly, he was one of my closest friends.” “I’m not sure I’m ready to acknowledge the magnitude of this loss, but I feel it already.”

“Adam directed every one of my solo shows, including JUST FOR US, which I conceived over beers with him on the same street in London.” Adam’s chuckle was unique and deep, and it was my favorite sound. I looked for it over and over.”

“I was lucky to spend so much time with him, especially over the last year and a half, and I am distraught at the prospect of doing the show on Broadway without him,” he continued. To be honest, I’m not sure what type of performer – or person – I’ll be without him.”

Edelman just stated in another tweet that he was “bereft.”

Brace’s death comes less than a month after it was announced that his and Edelman’s performance would be staged on Broadway.

Just For Us will premiere on Broadway this summer, with previews beginning on June 22 at the Hudson Theater. The production’s opening night is set for June 26, and it will continue until August 19.

Edelman, who has been on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Late Night with Seth Meyers and Conan O’Brien, has previously performed his one-man show on the West End of London as well as Off Broadway in New York at the Greenwich House Theater, Soho Playhouse, and Cherry Lane Theatre.
