The anticipation surrounding Melania Trump’s documentary was considerable. Set to premiere on January 30, her husband, Donald Trump, promoted it as a ‘must-watch.’ However, the reality of ticket sales is quite different, as interest appears to be minimal, leading to online mockery directed at the former First Lady.
At a time when Donald Trump was preparing to take office, Melania shared her ambition to produce a documentary, titled simply “Melania.” Reports suggest Amazon paid approximately $40 million for its licensing.
“I wanted to create a film about my life, showing the day-to-day of my responsibilities and how busy my life is,” Melania explained at the time to Fox. Initially slated for a late 2025 release, the film’s debut was advanced to January 30, with theaters across the U.S. lined up to screen it.
While there was a buzz among Donald Trump’s supporters, the excitement hasnโt translated into ticket sales. On social media, Trump encouraged his followers to purchase tickets, describing them as selling fast. Yet, reality paints a different picture.
Pressuring Republican Clubs to Help?
A claim is circulating that Republican clubs in some conservative regions are being nudged to buy tickets or entire screenings of Melania’s documentary to prevent a perceived failure at the box office. “The demand isnโt genuine,” an insider was quoted telling Rob Shuter. “Republican groups are stepping in to avoid the bad optics of empty theaters.”
As reported, these clubs are buying large seating blocks or showings, even offering tickets at significant discounts or for free on GOP-affiliated websites. Despite these attempts, they’re struggling to fill seats.
An insider noted, “It’s less about enjoying a movie and more about a demonstration of loyalty.”
What Happens When Movie Tickets Go Unsold?
When no tickets are sold for a screening, what are cinemas supposed to do? This question sparked discussions on Reddit. One user recounted their experience working in a theater, explaining that films would still play during the day, but if it was the last showing of the night, theyโd let it run for 15 minutes before shutting it down. “We would turn off the projector lamp to conserve it until a staff member got a call from the projector room,” they said.

Another former theater employee added that theyโd start the movie and let it play for 20 minutes in case someone decided to buy a last-minute ticket. If nobody showed up, they’d stop the film. “Those screenings were the easiest to clean after,” they reminisced.
Melania’s Perspective on the Documentary
Amidst the disappointing ticket sales, Melania remains unfazed. After a private screening at the White House, she expressed her gratitude on social media, describing the event as a “historic moment.”
She highlighted the group of friends, family, and cultural influencers present at the screening, each contributing their unique perspectives. “This film is a reflection of enduring personal stories,” she wrote, emphasizing its significance ahead of the global release.
The coming days will determine whether interest in this documentary can be ignited.
