Donald Trump’s recent activity in the White House has sparked quite a bit of discussion and concern. The former president seems to be dropping hints about possibly running for office again in the future, beyond the traditional two terms.

Whispers of a Third Term
Though running for a third term as president would go against the 22nd Amendment, Trump, who is now 79, has mentioned the idea multiple times. Having secured victories in 2016 and 2024, many argue that he’s already treaded close to legal boundaries set for presidential terms.
Back in August, Trump made comments that set the stage for potential future ambitions regarding a third term, as unlikely as that seems.
Recently, he posted a curious photo on his social media platform, Truth Social. This image might offer another hint about his future plans.
In the photo, Trump was seen with Democratic leaders in the Oval Office on Monday, September 29, during discussions on how to stave off a government shutdown. What caught everyone’s eye was his wearing of a hat bearing the words ‘Trump 2028’.

A Timing That Raises Questions
Interestingly, this post appeared just after news broke about the government closing, a situation not faced since the closure between 2018 and 2019.
Hakeem Jeffries, the minority leader of the US House of Representatives, responded swiftly to Trump’s actions, particularly the AI-generated video that mocked him, which accompanied the post.
In a CNN interview, Jeffries remarked, “He is an unserious individual and the Republicans are unserious at this point. They show no desire for genuine dialogue, and the chaotic behavior we witness indicates who’s steering us towards a shutdown.”
Social Media Erupts
The reaction from social media was rapid and intense. Many were not pleased with Trump’s behavior and potential plans for another presidential run. One Twitter user expressed frustration, saying, “Trump spent yesterdayโs meeting with Democratic leadership taunting them with โTrump 2028โ hats. Heโs not serious about keeping the government open. Heโs openly mocking Americaโs Constitution.”

Another individual remarked, “The hat serves as a warning for whatโs to come. Some folks keep ignoring that warning.” The sentiment was echoed by someone else who voiced disappointment in Democratic leaders for participating in the meeting despite the provocative ‘2028 Trump’ hats on display.
They emphatically stated, “When you walk into a meeting with Trump that is supposed to be a bipartisan negotiation on a funding resolution and he has โTrump 2028โ merch strewn across the table, the correct response is TO WALK OUT OF THE F****** ROOM.”
The situation has left many waiting to see what unfolds next, both in terms of Trump’s aspirations and the upcoming political landscape.
