For a year and a half, we helped my mother-in-law feed the bull โ and in the fall, my husbandโs brother came and took all the meat. My mother-in-law said we could wait, but after my response, she turned GREENโฆ ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ
For a year and a half, the younger son and his wife helped Valerie with raising the bull. Because of this, Brian didnโt even take a vacation, since his mother kept saying she couldnโt manage on her own. She even bought a wool belt, claiming her back hurt.
She couldnโt do any hard work. Still, she kept up with the garden and never once wished us well. But there was a logical explanation for that.
Andrew and Diana never once saw the harvest. At best, their mother would make a salad when they came to visit. The rest she gave to the elder sonโs family.
Of course, it was shameless to ask the younger son for help without sharing anything with him. In reality, for the younger sonโs family, the bullโs hide wasnโt worth the effort.
If they had calculated how much money they had spent on this work, they could have just bought meat themselves and lived peacefully. But Valerie insisted that working on the farm was better.
โ โWhy count money? Think of the health benefits!โ she would say proudly.
Yes, the bull had been raised without hormones or chemicals, just grass, love, and care. Once, it even had to be treated. Guess who paid for that?
Although Valerie shouted that she would cover all the costs, no one ever saw her money. Andrew and Diana swallowed everything in silence.
They didnโt plan to ask her for money. Whenever they tried to bring it up, she would immediately promise that soon sheโd reward them with fresh, healthy meat. The young couple had long grown tired of these empty promises.
Still, I was glad it would all end soon. The poor bull had to be butchered. We decided to put aside the negativity and even planned to make delicacies from the homegrown beef.
But when we came to collect the meat, we were SHOCKED.
My husbandโs brother had already taken it all.
Valerie told us we could wait, but after my reply, her face turned GREEN.
I clenched my fists and took a deep breath. I felt my blood boiling.
โ Wait? โ I said with a bitter smile. โ Wait for WHAT, dear mother? To raise another bull? Or do you want us to waste another year and a half working for free, just so your older son can take it all again?
She swallowed hard. Her face, already pale-green, seemed frozen stiff.
โ Iโฆ I just thoughtโฆ she stammered.
โ That we wouldnโt notice? I continued. โ That weโd swallow this like all the other lies?
Andrew, my husband, who usually avoided conflict, stepped forward and said in a cold tone:
โ Mom, we worked for that bull. We spent money. I gave up my vacation. And you decided we donโt deserve anything?
Valerie straightened her shoulders, trying to regain her composure.
โ But heโs your older brother! He has more kids! He needs the meat more than you do!
I burst out laughing, but it was bitter, not joyful.
โ Oh, really? Then let me tell you something, Mom! If he needs meat, next time he can raise his own bull! We want the money we invested back!
Her eyes widened in shock.
โ What do you mean, money?!
โ Exactly what you heard, I said firmly. โ Do you expect us to be fools every time? To work for others? No way! Either you give us our share, or you compensate us for every dollar we spent!
Valerie began stuttering, searching for an excuse, but Andrew calmly pulled out his phone:
โ Then letโs call my brother. Letโs hear what he has to say.
Her face turned purple with fury. And thatโs when the REAL scandal began!
This tense moment marked the start of a long conversation about responsibilities and fairness in a family. Itโs often difficult to accept when relatives are favored, and to realize that your work should matter just as much as anyone elseโs.
The heated discussion carried on, every argument sharper than the last. The whole family seemed torn between loyalty and justice, and the only real solution demanded a painful compromise.
Andrew held his ground, even as things got more and more tense. Both sides eventually realized that everyone needed to understand one anotherโs perspective.
It became clear that the only way forward was to put everything on the table and reach a fair agreement, without hidden grudges.
By the time this difficult part of the conversation ended, each step felt closer to a peaceful resolution.
