Olivia Newton-John died in 2022, sadly. She was a wonderful person with a lot of talent.

It is obvious that her death had an impact on her close friends and family.

The daughter of the Grease star has revealed how her mother spent her final hours and her mother’s parting words to her.

Regrettably, it’s a downer of a book.

Olivia Newton-John was the queen of our television screens for decades, making successive generations giggle. The singer and actress’s dazzling grin and lovable manner made her a delight to see at all times.

Her performance in “Grease” catapulted her to new levels of stardom, which she had never experienced before. She is currently one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, having sold over 100 million records.

She also had to struggle with a terrible disease for a significant chunk of her life. For many years, the legendary Grease actress fought breast cancer while attempting to live her life.

According to reports, she was diagnosed with cancer for the first time in 1992. Doctors informed her of the devastating news shortly after she released her third greatest hits CD, Back to Basics: The Essential Collection 1971-1992.

Olivia was forced to postpone the promotion for the aforementioned record as well as her intended tour after receiving her initial breast cancer diagnosis.

Olivia was hit with yet more tragedy, as if her initial cancer diagnosis wasn’t enough. Her father died the same weekend, which was a horribly awful turn of events.

Olivia Newton-John had regular checks, which allowed her cancer to be detected early. Her right breast underwent a partial mastectomy within 24 hours of the diagnosis. Olivia was “too distressed to say anything” when she arrived at the hospital before her surgery, despite physicians’ assurances that the prognosis was good.

“I just want to get better,” stated the singer-actress.

Newton-John, then 43, might have remained silent and avoided disclosing her diagnosis, but she preferred to avoid gruesome tabloid headlines. In the end, her decision to reveal her breast cancer helped raise awareness and may have saved thousands of lives.

“I gain strength from the millions of women who have overcome this obstacle,” she remarked.

Olivia made a full recovery following nine months of chemotherapy, acupuncture, breast reconstruction, and homeopathic treatments. She later became a breast cancer research advocate.

The Grease actress, who had always insisted on eating healthy and following a strict exercise program, decided to spend millions of dollars on a “greenhouse” to help her fight against cancer.

The mansion was built with stunning ocean views in California’s Malibu. Olivia insisted on utilizing only non-toxic materials throughout the house, and no waste or repurposed wood was permitted.

“After I was diagnosed with cancer, I kept asking myself, ‘Why?” “All I could think about was how the illness could have been caused by the environment we were living in,” Olivia told the Sunday Mirror in 1993.

I couldn’t help but wonder whether it had something to do with the water and air we were breathing in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is overcrowded, and I felt suffocated.

Battling cancer helped Olivia overcome her fears and reevaluate her priorities. Once the well-known female singer was diagnosed with cancer, fans and friends from all around the world sent her hundreds of flowers and get-well cards.

Olivia stated in a 1994 interview with the Santa Cruz Sentinel that having all of the support from friends, family, and fans was a critical step in her recovery.

“As a woman, it might be difficult to focus on yourself,” she admitted. “We’re always focusing on our family, everybody else besides ourselves. We are usually last. Mother always gets the smallest potato, you know.”

Olivia Newton-John never intended for her illness to break her spirit.

“If you think happy ideas, you’ll attract positive individuals to you,” the British-Australian actress told Us Weekly in 2019.

Olivia’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, told 9News that her mother’s cancer struggle was extremely difficult for the family.

“I’d wake up in the middle of the night sweating. “I kind of pushed it, I didn’t deal with it,” she said of her mother’s illness in her first broadcast interview with 60 Minutes.

Olivia, 68, was shocked to learn in 2017 that her cancer had spread to her bones. Doctors informed the Grease star that her back pain was caused by breast cancer that had migrated to her sacrum, a bone in the lower back, and that she would have to cancel many concerts as a result.

Olivia undertook radiation therapy and other wellness therapies with the “absolute knowingness” that she could turn things around again. Olivia’s husband, John Easterling, claimed that her discomfort had “gone from an 8 to around a 2” after two weeks. Throughout her sickness, the singer maintained a positive attitude and continued to advocate for research.

She and her husband established the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund to gather funds for medical research and cancer treatment.

“I’m feeling fantastic and have complete support from my family and friends, as well as a team of wellness and medical practitioners here in the United States and at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia,” she stated.

At this trying time in her life, the actress was candid about her health struggles and became a symbol of success and hope. She also revealed that this was her third battle with breast cancer, having experienced a recurrence of the disease in 2013.

“A lot of people see it as a conflict, and how you choose to see it is really up to you. I consider it to be a part of my… whatever you want to call it. “Maybe I consider it as part of my mission,” she explained.

Olivia fought her cancer heroically until it returned for the third time.

Her health suffered greatly the third time cancer returned since she was older. This meant she only made a few public appearances and mainly avoided the spotlight.

Olivia increased her fundraising efforts for The Olivia Newton-John Foundation for cancer research after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2019. According to the Daily Mail, she sold much of her real estate to fund additional studies. The actress apparently opted to sell her 189-acre farm in California for $6.6 million.

Olivia also gave her devoted husband, John Easterling, complete ownership of her Santa Barbara residence in October 2021.

“Olivia enjoyed assisting others. “She spent the last two decades of her life giving back,” an Olivia source told The New York Post.

“She wanted to leave something lasting, something that her daughter, too, could benefit from.”

The final days of life
Totti Goldsmith, Olivia Newton-niece, John’s said the family could only watch as the icon’s condition deteriorated in the last five days of her life.

“It’s not a surprise; we’ve been aware of how ill she’s been, particularly in the last five days,” Totti, who resides in Melbourne, told A Current Affair.

Totti was unable to make it to her auntie’s house in Southern California in time, so she said her final farewell over the phone. Olivia’s husband arranged for them to meet on Facetime for one last time.

“I told her all I needed to say. “She was leaving us… but I could tell she understood it,” Totti explained.

Totti, Olivia’s sister, also said that the Grease star was in excruciating pain in her dying days.

“It wasn’t just the illness that killed her; it was also the problems of being in a hospital and having a weak immune system. “She had secondary infections,” she explained.

Totti also recounted a story from when she visited her aunt at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Center in Melbourne a few years ago. Olivia was receiving treatment there and appeared ill.

“She was really underweight and quite sick, and I asked her, ‘Are you terrified of dying?” Totti remembered.

“She said, ‘Plonker’, which was my nickname, she said, ‘I’m not, I’m not afraid, I’ve done more in my life than I could have ever imagined’.

“She had no idea her life would turn out the way it did.”

Olivia died at the age of 73 on August 8, 2022. According to her Instagram account, she died softly at home in Southern California, surrounded by loved ones.

Instead of flowers, the actress requested donations to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.

Olivas’s daughter Chloe Lattanzi provided a unique insight inside her adored mother’s final hours with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb.

“The last words mom could say to me were’my sunshine,’” Chloe Lattanzi told Today.

“And she was making jokes shortly before she lost her capacity to talk.”

Olivia Newton-John was adored by millions of people worldwide, including her co-stars, peers, and colleagues in the entertainment industry.

We’ll always love your songs and your classic Grease performance.
