According to insiders, the actor caught the illness while on vacation with his family. The actor’s representative confirmed this to NBC News but declined to share any other information.

The news outlet then revealed that, while the actor from The American Gigolo already had a cough, it had worsened when he was in Mexico. He went to the hospital since his cough was getting worse, and pneumonia was discovered. After spending the night in the hospital being monitored, the actor was released the next day.

She captioned a shot of herself and Gere walking with their son while holding hands. “I woke up this morning and saw the news, as well as all of your kind and [worried] comments,” she captioned the post. “He’s healing, and he’s feeling a lot better today!”
