Ellen DeGeneres ‘leaves US and moves to England’ after Trump’s win

Ellen DeGeneres has made a significant move overseas to the United Kingdom following the latest election results, which have positioned Donald Trump as the second president in U.S. history to serve two non-consecutive terms.

Many celebrities have been rumored to be considering a move away from the U.S. after Trump’s win. Yet, it seems that comedian Ellen DeGeneres is among the few who have actually decided to take the plunge and make the change.

Reports suggest that the well-known talk show host and her wife, Portia de Rossi – famous for her role in Arrested Development – have left behind their home in Montecito, California. This area might sound familiar as it is also the residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Instead, the couple have chosen to settle in England.

Where is Ellen’s new home?

The couple is said to have chosen the Cotswolds as their new place of residence. The Cotswolds, located in South West England, is also home to well-known figures like David and Victoria Beckham, actor Hugh Grant, and model Kate Moss.

Ellen has experienced a challenging few years after facing allegations of fostering a bullying and harsh environment on her popular Ellen DeGeneres Show set. Although the 66-year-old addressed the claims and accepted responsibility for the negative atmosphere, the allegations had already impacted her previously spotless image.

As of 2024, Ellen announced she would retire from show business, marking her departure with one last standup special titled “For Your Approval.” Given her official retirement from the industry, it’s some people’s surprise to hear of her and her partner’s relocation to England. However, the reasons behind this move are certainly stirring some controversy.

Ellen’s decision to relocate is reportedly tied to Donald Trump’s victory in the recent election. While TMZ notes Ellen and Portia had purchased their Cotswolds residence before the election, a source indicated that the couple wanted to “get the hell out” of America after Trump’s win.

Moreover, an anonymous insider told the media outlet “The Wrap” that the couple is likely to “never” return to the U.S.
