Once upon a time, a blonde and a redhead were proud owners of a quaint little ranch. As sometimes happens in the ranching life, they found themselves in a bit of a pickle—they had just lost their beloved bull. This was a big deal because a ranch isn’t quite the same without one.

Determined to fix the situation, the resourceful redhead came up with a plan. She told the blonde, “I’ll head to the market and see if I can find us a new bull. We have exactly $500, so I’ll try my best to stick to that amount. If I find one, I’ll send you a telegram with the news.”

Off she went, her mind set on securing a new bull. At the market, imagine her delight when she stumbled upon just the right bull priced at $499! With the purchase complete, she found herself with only a single dollar left in her pocket.

The next step was to get a message sent to the blonde back at the ranch. She made her way to the telegraph office, where she discovered that sending a telegram would cost her exactly one dollar per word. Now, that was quite the challenge! How on earth was she to convey her message in just one word?

For a moment, the redhead pondered this dilemma. Then her clever side kicked in. She turned to the telegraph operator with a confident smile and requested that a single word be sent: “comfortable.”

Puzzled by this choice, the operator couldn’t help but ask, “How on earth will she understand to come get the bull from just that one word?”

Grinning, the redhead explained her reasoning, “My friend is a blonde, and you know how they sometimes read slowly. So, she’ll read it as, ‘Come for ta bull.’” The operator chuckled at her ingenious solution, and the plan was set into motion.
