Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers has been granted temporary guardianship of his 17-year-old brother, Amari Douglas Thompson. This legal victory was obtained on September 21st, according to court documents obtained by E! News. The temporary guardianship will be in effect until December 5th, 2023.

Through this legal move, Tristan, who is 32 years old, now has all the powers and responsibilities that a parent with legal custody would have. This includes managing Amari’s finances, making decisions about his living arrangements, traveling with him both domestically and internationally, applying for American citizenship, and having the ability to obtain legal counsel.

Tristan filed for temporary guardianship on September 8th after the unexpected passing of his mother, Andrea Thompson, from a heart attack in January. Andrea, who was 53 years old and lived in Toronto, had a close bond with Tristan’s partner, Khloe Kardashian, and their children. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Khloe and her entire family have been by Tristan’s side to provide comfort and support during this difficult time.

When Tristan brought Amari from Toronto to California, unforeseen circumstances arose when his house became unlivable due to storm damage. In response to this, Khloe graciously opened her home to Tristan and Amari, as shared in an episode of the Kardashians in July. Khloe expressed her gratitude for being strong enough and brave enough to be a support system for someone who currently has no other support options. She also emphasized that treating others with kindness is not dependent on receiving the same treatment. This is a value she was raised with and continues to embody.

It is important to mention that Tristan also has a 6-year-old son named Prince Oliver Jordan Craig from a previous relationship, as well as a 21-month-old son named Theo Maralee Nichols.
