Every day, we are bombarded with tragic news stories that can leave us feeling disheartened. While it’s important to be aware of the challenges in the world, it’s equally important to celebrate stories of strength and resilience. Today, we bring you the incredible journey of Ngo Quy Hai, a burn survivor who has defied all odds to become a proud owner of a bakery.

Hai’s life took a tragic turn when he was just a toddler. While innocently pushing a baby walker in the kitchen, he fell into an open wood stove, causing severe burns on a large part of his body. At that time, there was little knowledge about the dangers of baby walkers. Hai was rushed to Children’s Hospital 1 in Saigon, where he underwent extensive treatments and surgeries to save his life.

After two years of hospital stays and reconstructive surgeries, Hai was left with scars that served as a constant reminder of the pain he had endured. The physical trauma was not the only challenge he faced. Hai also suffered significant mental trauma and bullying for his appearance. Feeling ostracized from society, he spent nearly two years confined to his home, without stepping foot outside.

Despite the hardships, Hai found solace in a friendship with someone who also faced disabilities. They shared the same struggles and supported each other through the ups and downs. It was during one heartbreaking incident where they were chased out of a bakery due to their looks and economic background that Hai realized his dream. He wanted to open his own bakery where everyone would be welcomed, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

With the unwavering support of his family, Hai enrolled in a hospitality training school in Hanoi. Years later, despite initially being too afraid to show his face, Hai accomplished his dream of owning a bakery. His shop became a sanctuary of joy and delicious treats, where he welcomed children selling lottery tickets to enjoy a piece of cake with a warm smile.

Hai’s incredible journey has taught him the importance of compassion and kindness. He has made it his mission to give back to those who face similar hardships. Through his own experiences, he knows that a single act of kindness can make a significant difference in someone’s life.

“I am more than how I look. Do not call me harsh words. I am a survivor,” Hai bravely tells The Epoch Times.

Hai’s story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It reminds us that no matter the challenges we face, we can overcome them and find a way to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Let us join together in celebrating Hai’s triumphs and sending well wishes and love not only to him but also to anyone facing their own struggles.
