Pat Sajak, the “Wheel of Fortune” host, discusses having emergency surgery for a blocked bowel a month ago.

In his first post-surgery interview, Sajak told “Good Morning America” that he felt he would die right before the treatment.

The game show host began having “excruciating” discomfort in November while out for a morning walk with his daughter. He was twisted over in agony hours later, as he was about to go into surgery.

“I was in the fetal position on the bed,” he explained. “They use a variety of drugs to alleviate your pain.” And nothing – nothing – worked.”

Then, he claimed, his doctors administered a pain reliever to him.

“I wasn’t thinking about the discomfort anymore,” he added. “I just got these incredible pastels and my face was spilling out of it.”

“In the background, I could hear my wife and daughter talking.” “They sounded like they were a mile away, but they were right next to me,” he explained. “They were talking to each other. And I remember thinking, not morbidly, that this had to be death. This is how death must feel.’”

He was worried about his wife and children at the time, and he was unhappy that they would have to “deal with the aftermath,” he said.

Of course, Sajak survived the treatment, so his concerns of death were unfounded.

“It turns out I was just high,” he joked.

“Good Morning America” said that Sajak’s operation was “completely successful.”

Doctors, he claimed, had uncovered no underlying cause of the intestinal blockage. As a result, he does not need to change his way of life.

“I’ve been feeling fantastic for several weeks,” Sajak explained. “I’ve begun working in the studio again, doing shows.” Nothing popped even after spinning the wheel. So I think that’s fine.”

Vanna White, Sajak’s long-time co-host, stood in for him while he recovered. Sajak joked that he is concerned she may take over as the main host during the chat.

“I found out she likes hosting, and I’m a little nervous,” he admitted.
