The emphasis is on the word “never.” That’s correct, the majority of 1970s men’s fashion should remain in the 1970s.

Vintage fashion trends are continually making stylish comebacks and regaining popularity. Choker necklaces, sweatpants, shredded denim, and wide-leg pants are not new styles, but they are popular right now. While some fashion fads are perfectly recyclable, others should be forgotten forever.

Men’s fashion has improved dramatically over the years, but only after going through some terrible stages. Guys wore anything from fur jackets and clashing patterns to vinyl jumpsuits and wool bodysuits in the 1970s. There was a time when men wore sizzling little dresses and silky underpants and the outline of their crotches was popular. They were dressed in animal-print bodysuits and shorts so short they’d have been better off naked.

Fashion designers and trend setters were learning how to be bolder and better back then. The fashion business was still in its early stages, and everyone aspired to create something spectacularly distinctive. The fight for creativity was fierce, and it has remained so since. However, in the 1970s, creativity seemed to have a different connotation. You’re on the right track if it’s bright, loud, over-the-top, and fussy.

My uncle sent me a ‘hot’ photo of himself at a college fundraiser, dressed in plaid bell-bottoms and a belted sweater. The icing on the odd cake was a pair of black ‘nearly’ two-inch heeled boat shoes, and he’d been the hottest guy at that occasion, in his opinion. Without a question.

There’s no sugarcoating it: 70s men’s fashion was a colossal flop, and we’ve compiled a gallery of images to demonstrate why.
