Rita Carrey, the beloved sister of renowned actor and comedian Jim Carrey, has sadly left this world at the age of 68. This heartbreaking event occurred just over a year after she celebrated her marriage to Alex.
In a heartfelt announcement on her Facebook page, Rita’s husband, Alex, shared the sorrowful news of her passing on November 14. Rita was comforted by her close-knit family and dear friends during her final moments.
“With a heavy heart and deep sadness, Rita passed away peacefully and quietly surrounded by her family and friends on November 14, 2024,” Alex expressed in his message. The couple shared 16 loving years together before exchanging vows in an enchanting outdoor ceremony last July.
“We embarked on numerous adventures around the world, meeting many individuals whom we consider cherished friends. Rita was more than my wife; she was my best friend and the love of my life,” Alex fondly remembered. “Rita was known for her loving spirit and her desire to help others, even total strangers. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, something she celebrated daily, and she even began a fundraiser to assist a local charity.”
Remembering Jim Carrey’s Sister
Rita was one of the three elder siblings of Jim Carrey, widely recognized for his role in The Mask. Jim grew up with his brother, John, and his sister, Patricia, alongside Rita in their native Canada.
Back in 2015, during a conversation on SiriusXM 167, Rita humorously reflected on living as the sister of such a famous actor.
“It’s not difficult,” she laughed. “Every day, people ask me about it… I joke that my name is now JCS, short for Jesus Christ Superstar, because nobody calls me by my name; it’s always ‘Jim Carrey’s sister.’”
“For the last twenty-five years, I’ve been asked about Jim daily. Every single day, someone mentions: ‘Aren’t you Jim Carrey’s sister?’ or says I remind them of someone they know. It doesn’t bother me,” she shared with a warm smile.
As of now, Jim Carrey has yet to publicly speak about his sister’s departure.
