Elton John: Thank You for ’52 Years of Joy’

After over five decades on the road, the legendary Elton John has officially concluded his touring career. The iconic musician took his final bow at Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena on Saturday as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.

Reflecting on his incredible journey, Elton, now 76, shared with the audience, “I’ve had the most wonderful career, it’s beyond words. How blessed I am to have made music for 52 years?” He ended the concert with beloved classics “Your Song” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

Expressing his heartfelt gratitude, he added, “But, truly, it’s all because of you. You bought the singles, albums, CDs, and cassettes, but most importantly, you bought the concert tickets. I genuinely love performing live, and it’s all because of you.”

Following the show, the five-time Grammy award winner acknowledged his fans for their unwavering support over more than fifty years. “My fans have stood by me every moment,” he stated in a statement. “You’ve been patient, supportive, and have attended every single concert. I’m truly thankful.”

Emotions ran high during the performance when Chris Martin of Coldplay, performing in Sweden that night, sent a touching tribute. “Elton, from all of us here and every artist you’ve inspired or supported, we love you immensely. Happy retirement and we’ll miss you dearly,” Martin shared.

Elton, who embarked on his touring career in 1970, had penned a poignant message on Instagram prior to the event, saying, “What an incredible journey this tour has been. Now, we reach its conclusion. Tonight is the closing chapter.”

Although he is stepping back from touring, fans have been assured they haven’t seen the last of Elton John. Speculations of future performances are on the horizon. As David Furnish, Elton’s husband and manager expressed, “While Elton retires from touring, it’s not his last public performance. Expect a unique event or perhaps a short but dazzling residency.”
