Donald Trump reportedly says Elon Musk

Trump Confirms Musk’s Upcoming Departure from Government Role

Donald Trump has reportedly shared that Elon Musk will soon be stepping down from his involvement with the U.S. government. Despite praising Musk’s recent cost-saving measures, Trump anticipates Musk will “step back” in a few weeks.

Previously, Musk had revealed to Fox News’ Brett Baier his plan to cut $1 trillion from the U.S. government budget within 130 days, aiming for completion by the end of May.

As a “special government employee,” Musk’s federal government work is capped at 130 days annually. His involvement through the Department of Government Efficiency, funnily abbreviated as DOGE, is expected to conclude by July 4, 2026, unless an extension is granted.

Trump Discusses Musk’s Departure with Cabinet

Discussions about Musk’s departure have been ongoing, with reports suggesting Trump has informed his cabinet of Musk’s imminent exit to focus on his own business ventures.

Those close to the administration indicate that while Musk may retain a supporting role, his regular participation in the administration is likely to cease.

Trump Open to Keeping Musk Longer

This isn’t necessarily the final chapter for Trump and Musk’s collaboration. On March 31, Trump indicated that Musk might eventually want to concentrate on his company, yet expressed a desire to keep him engaged if Musk is willing.

A statement by a White House spokesperson on April 1 echoed this sentiment: “As the President mentioned, ideally, we’d retain Elon’s involvement for as long as possible.

Elon has been key in advancing the President’s agenda, and he’ll persist in this role until otherwise directed by the President.”

Impact of Musk’s Ties with Trump Administration

Musk’s collaboration with the Trump administration hasn’t been without its challenges. One notable consequence has been a dip in Tesla sales worldwide. In a peculiar gesture, Trump hosted a demonstration on the White House lawn, condemning the “radical left” while expressing his intent to purchase a Tesla.
