Cheese-Stuffed Flatbreads

Cheese-Stuffed Flatbreads ๐Ÿง€๐ŸŸ

These golden, cheesy flatbreads are a comforting, quick snack or side dish that everyone will love. Crispy on the outside and filled with melted cheese on the inside, theyโ€™re perfect served hot, brushed with butter, and paired with a cool dollop of sour cream or yogurt.

Ingredients:

400 g (about 3 ยผ cups) all-purpose flour

250 ml (1 cup) warm water

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons oil (sunflower or olive)

200 g (about 1 ยพ cups) grated hard cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or gouda work great)

Softened butter (for brushing after cooking)

Instructions:

1โƒฃ Prepare the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour with the salt. Add the warm water and oil, then knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms. You can use your hands or a stand mixer with a dough hook. Once itโ€™s no longer sticky, cover the dough and let it rest for 20 minutes at room temperature. This helps the gluten relax, making it easier to roll out later.

2โƒฃ Divide and roll:
After resting, divide the dough into 6 to 8 equal portions, shaping each into a smooth ball. On a floured surface, roll each ball into a thin, round sheet โ€” about the thickness of a tortilla. Donโ€™t worry if the shape isnโ€™t perfect!

3โƒฃ Add the cheese filling:
Sprinkle a generous layer of grated cheese over half of each dough round. Fold the other half over the cheese to form a half-moon shape, then press the edges together firmly to seal. Use a fork if you like to ensure the edges stay closed while cooking.

4โƒฃ Cook the flatbreads:
Heat a nonstick skillet or flat griddle over medium heat (no oil needed). Place one flatbread in the hot pan and cook for about 2โ€“3 minutes on each side, or until golden and lightly blistered. The cheese inside should be nicely melted. Repeat with the remaining flatbreads.

5โƒฃ Finish and serve:
While still hot, brush each flatbread generously with softened butter. This adds flavor and gives them a delicious shine.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve warm with a side of cold sour cream or plain yogurt. Theyโ€™re great on their own as a snack, or as a side dish to soups and salads. For a twist, try adding chopped herbs, chili flakes, or sautรฉed onions to the cheese filling.
