A traffic officer was called to the scene of a near-collision on a narrow two-lane road, where two vehicles had almost crashed head-on.

One of the drivers, a silver-haired woman with a flustered expression, kept insisting, โHe just wouldnโt give me my half of the road!โ
After interviewing witnesses and piecing together what had happened, the officer walked over to the second driver, who was examining the crumpled front of his car.
โThat woman claims you wouldnโt let her have her half of the road,โ the officer said. โCare to explain?โ
The man exhaled sharply and turned from his damaged bumper. โOfficer, I wouldโve had no problem giving her half the roadโif only sheโd picked which half she wanted!โ
Ahighway patrol officer was sitting in his cruiser, watching traffic fly by on a quiet afternoon, hoping to catch any speeders who might zip past.
Suddenly, a car crept by at a slow and steady pace of 22 miles per hour.
Raising an eyebrow, the officer muttered to himself, โThatโs almost as dangerous as going too fast!โ

He flicked on his lights and pulled out, bringing the slow-moving vehicle to a stop.
As he approached, he noticed five elderly ladies insideโtwo up front, three in the backโall of them wide-eyed and stiff as statues.
The driver looked up at him, visibly puzzled. โOfficer, I donโt understand. I was driving exactly the speed limit! Whatโs the issue?โ
The officer gently explained, โMaโam, you werenโt exceeding the speed limit, but driving far below it can also create hazardous conditions.โ
She tilted her head in confusion. โBelow the limit? But I was following it to the letterโtwenty-two miles per hour!โ
Trying not to laugh, the officer smiled and said, โMaโam, that wasnโt the speed limit you were following. That number you sawโ22? Thatโs the route number, not the legal speed.โ
The elderly womanโs eyes widened slightly, and then she gave a sheepish grin. โWell, thank you for clearing that up, Officer.โ
Before letting them go, he glanced at the other passengers, who were still frozen in place with stunned expressions.
โJust one more thing, maโam,โ he asked. โIs everyone in your car alright? They look a bit… unsettled.โ
The woman nodded. โOh, theyโll be fine in a moment. You see, we just came off Route 119.โ
