After his home is destroyed by fire, Mel Gibson shares a heartbreaking fact
Mel Gibson, a well-known actor at the age of 69, recently faced a devastating loss when his California home was consumed by the fierce Palisades fire.
This was the place he called home for 15 years. The fire erupted unexpectedly while he was away in Austin, Texas, recording an episode for The Joe Rogan Experience.
The BBC reported that the fire spread rapidly through Gibson’s community, engulfing homes in flames.
Fortunately, before the blaze reached their residence, his long-time partner, Rosalind Ross, and their seven-year-old son, Lars Gerard Gibson, evacuated safely.
While speaking with Joe Rogan, Gibson had already expressed concern about his area’s fire risk. He lamented the inaction of California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, saying, “I think all our tax dollars probably went for Gavin’s hair gel,” highlighting his frustration over the lack of preventive measures.
On returning to California, Mel discovered that his $14.5 million Malibu home was completely gone.
He recounted his reaction in an interview with Elizabeth Vargas Reports on NewsNation, saying, “I thought, `Eh, I wonder if my place is still there.’” Sadly, it wasn’t.
Mel had been trying to sell this expansive estate for years, even reducing the price by $3 million. Purchased in 2008 for $11.5 million, the residence was built in 1996 and was known for its castle-like turret and historic grandeur.
The Daily Mail depicted it as possessing an impressive old-world charm.
Despite the overwhelming nature of his loss, Gibson holds gratitude for his family’s safety. “I can’t get back a lot of my personal belongings that I had there,” expressed the actor.
“There were items such as pictures, important documents, and other personal mementos, including clothes and other neat stuff, but these are all replaceable. They are just things. What’s really significant is that everyone in my family is fine, out of harm’s way, and in great spirits.”
While describing the destruction in his neighborhood, Gibson said, “I’ve never seen such a complete burn.” Many other celebrities, including Ed Harris, Paris Hilton, and Billy Crystal, reportedly suffered similar losses.
The Braveheart star humorously commented, “It was completely toasted,” regarding his property. During his interview with Vargas, he jokingly remarked, “Well, at least I don’t have any of those annoying plumbing issues anymore.” Miraculously, his chickens survived the blaze, which he found quite incredible.
California’s wildfires have struck many, including well-known personalities like Gibson, serving as a somber reminder of the wildfire crisis the state constantly battles.
In a conversation with Fox News, Gibson criticized the response from authorities, stating, “Apparently, some people were asleep on the job, mainly our leaders. That is something they must endure.
Children suffer from trauma. Someone needs to take responsibility for it.” For a deeper insight from Gibson and other celebrities who faced similar suffering, watch the following video.
