If you’re looking for a dessert that looks stunning, has a refined taste, and is still easy to prepare at home, the Vienetta cake is the perfect choice.
With layers of fluffy sponge and delicate whipped cream-flavored filling, finished with drizzled melted chocolate, this cake reimagines the iconic Vienetta ice cream in homemade form. Here’s how to make it step by step:
Ingredients
For the sponge layers:
6 eggs
90 g powdered sugar
90 g all-purpose flour
½ packet baking powder (about 5–6 g)
For the cream:
2 packets whipped cream-flavored pudding powder (about 80 g total)
600 ml milk
150 g powdered sugar
250 g unsalted butter (or margarine)
150 g dark chocolate (for melting)
Instructions
Prepare the sponge:
Beat the eggs with the powdered sugar until fluffy and pale.
Gently fold in the flour mixed with baking powder.
Divide the batter into 3 equal parts.
Bake each part separately in a baking tray lined with parchment paper (22 × 30 cm) to create 3 sponge sheets.
After cooling, cut each sheet lengthwise in half to make 6 equal strips.
Prepare the cream:
Mix the pudding powder with powdered sugar and milk, then cook until thickened.
Allow the pudding to cool completely.
Separately, beat the butter until creamy, then gradually incorporate the cooled pudding.
Assemble the cake:
On a serving platter, place one sponge strip, spread a layer of cream, and drizzle with melted chocolate.
Repeat the process with all 6 sponge layers.
Use the remaining cream to cover the top and sides of the cake.
Decorate with melted chocolate.
Refrigerate for at least a few hours before serving to allow the layers to set.
Enjoy a rich, elegant dessert inspired by the famous Vienetta ice cream!
