My boyfriend always ‘forgets’ his credit card when we eat out

We’ve all had those moments where we accidentally leave our wallet or credit card at home when we’re out with friends, family, or our partner. Usually, it’s a rare mishap—but when it becomes a regular occurrence, there’s likely more to it than mere forgetfulness.

A woman recently sought advice on Reddit after refusing to cover her boyfriend and his children’s meal once again, as he conveniently ‘forgot’ his credit card.

In her post, she shared that she and her boyfriend have been together for nine months. He has two daughters from a previous relationship who enjoy going out to eat.

As a weekly tradition, they all dine out together. However, her boyfriend consistently ‘forgets’ his wallet, leaving her to pick up the tab each time.

She tried reminding him to bring his wallet, but he just chuckled.

On their last outing, before any orders were placed, she asked her boyfriend if he remembered his wallet. He pretended to be startled, searched himself, and claimed he left it in another pair of jeans, pleading with her to cover the meal “just this time.”

Feeling frustrated, she picked up her bag and stood up.

When he questioned her actions, she made it clear she wouldn’t pay again and encouraged him to enjoy dinner with his children.

Later, he phoned her, upset, accusing her of lacking empathy for his kids. He ended up canceling their orders and taking the children home unfed, sparking an argument where he criticized her for being selfish and not caring for the kids.

In her post, she asked if she was in the wrong. Redditors overwhelmingly supported her decision, highlighting that her boyfriend appeared to be deliberately ‘forgetting’ his wallet and taking advantage of her generosity.

A user commented, “NTA. Sweetie, you need to dump the loser. He will bleed you dry for the rest of your life and belittle you.” Another agreed, “NTA. This guy is a manipulative AH. Red flags left and right. ETA: you’re my hero for walking out. Had you stayed, he would have gaslighted you into paying. This is a situation he created.”
