American President Donald Trump started his term with force and made shocking decisions for many people in these past weeks. Now, the Republican leader will explain his decisions in detail before Congress, but his message will undoubtedly also be directed at the citizens.
President Donald Trump returned to his promise of a “golden age of America” at the conclusion of his speech before a joint session of Congress, repeating the line with which he began his speech, which was also a key theme in his inaugural address.
He promised, “Fellow Americans, prepare for an incredible future because the golden age of America has just begun. It will be something never seen before.”
Trump’s speech highlighted the first six weeks of his second term, which have been rapid and full of divisions, as he repeatedly attacked former President Joe Biden, emphasized his own achievements, and presented new priorities.
During his speech, multiple Democrats walked out in protest. Democratic Congressman Maxwell Frost from Florida took off his suit jacket in the middle of Trump’s speech to reveal a T-shirt that read, “No Kings Live Here.” In a statement, Frost said:
“Donald Trump is many things—a liar, a fraud, a would-be dictator—but no matter how hard he tries and how many Republicans in Congress kneel and kiss his ring, he will never be king. Tonight, the American people saw a desperate liar standing at a podium, spouting excuse after excuse for why he has failed to make their lives better—why he can’t lower the price of eggs, why he can’t reduce housing costs, why the stock market is crashing under his watch, why innocent immigrants and trans people are supposedly to blame. It’s all lies.”
After speaking for nearly an hour and 40 minutes, President Donald Trump now holds the record for the longest first speech before a joint session of Congress or a State of the Union address.
President Trump declared that he is working “tirelessly” to end the “wild conflict” in Ukraine.
He stated, “Millions of Ukrainians and Russians have been needlessly killed or wounded in this horrific and brutal conflict, with no end in sight.”

He mentioned that he received an “important” letter today from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Kyiv expressed its willingness to “sit at the negotiating table as soon as possible.”
Zelensky told him that his team is ready to work, Trump stated, “under the strong leadership of President Trump to achieve a lasting peace.”
Trump noted that Zelensky’s letter stated that he “truly appreciates how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence.” According to Trump, the letter also mentioned, “Ukraine is ready to sign at any time convenient for you.”
President Trump said he “appreciated” the letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, adding that “at the same time, we have had serious discussions with Russia.” He also claimed that the U.S. has received “strong signals” from Moscow that it is “ready for peace.”
“It is time to end this senseless war.”
Trump asserted that the U.S. “will acquire Greenland—one way or another.” He also stated that his administration would “reclaim” the Panama Canal. He mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whom he described as a “great gentleman.” “He is respected by everyone,” Trump said.
Trump said he had a message for the people of Greenland:
“We strongly support your right to determine your own future. If you choose to do so, we welcome you into the United States of America. I believe we will get it—one way or another, we will get it… We will keep you safe. We will make you prosperous, and together, we will take Greenland to heights you never thought possible.”
Trump declared that under his administration, tariffs would be imposed on products not manufactured in America.
“In some cases, this tariff will be ‘big,’” he said.
He claimed that other nations impose “extremely high” tariffs on the U.S., while the U.S. imposes relatively low tariffs on them.
“It’s very unfair. Other countries have used tariffs against us for decades, and now it’s our turn to start using them.”
He announced that reciprocal tariffs would take effect on April 2.
“Whatever tariffs they impose on us, we will impose on them. Whatever they tax us, we will tax them. I wanted it to be on April 1, but I didn’t want to be accused of an April Fools’ joke.”
President Trump stated that the U.S. has been “robbed for decades” by “almost every country on Earth.”
He claimed that tariffs would bring in “trillions and trillions of dollars” and create jobs “like never seen before.” “We will no longer allow this to happen.”
He accused Mexico and Canada of allowing fentanyl to enter the U.S. “at unprecedented levels,” leading to the deaths of “thousands” of American citizens.
“We are subsidizing Canada [and] Mexico… We won’t do that anymore,” he said.
Trump announced a 25% tariff on foreign aluminum, copper, lumber, and steel. He stated that these tariffs are not just about protecting American jobs but are “about protecting the soul of our nation.”
Business leaders have protested the tariffs, fearing they could lower profits and increase inflation. The International Chamber of Commerce warned on Tuesday that Trump’s trade agenda could trigger a global trade war that could plunge the world economy into a crisis similar to the Great Depression.
Stocks have sharply declined in the past two days as Trump implemented a 25% tariff on all Mexican products and most Canadian products, ending decades of free trade in North America. The Dow has dropped 1,300 points in two days, and the S&P 500 has fallen 4% since Trump took office. The tech-heavy Nasdaq has dropped 7% as inflation remains persistent, businesses warn of reduced consumer spending, and consumer confidence declines in anticipation of tariffs.
Trump dismissed the criticism, acknowledging that “there may be some disruption” and “a period of adjustment,” but he insisted that tariffs would ultimately bring prosperity by forcing companies to manufacture more products in the U.S., creating jobs and opportunities.
His administration has stated that tariffs will not contribute to inflation and that the revenue, combined with savings from federal budget cuts, will allow the government to lower taxes.
Trump claimed that his administration will “take back power” from an “unaccountable bureaucracy” and “restore true democracy in America.”
He warned that any bureaucrat opposing this effort “will be immediately removed from office.”
“We are draining the swamp. The days of government by unelected bureaucrats are over.”
Trump declared that interest rates have dropped “a lot and nicely” today.
He announced a “gold card” visa system, offering a potential pathway to U.S. citizenship for a $5 million investment.
“It’s like the green card, but better and more sophisticated.”
He claimed that this visa program would create an “enormous” number of jobs and be a “great success” for businesses.
“We are now going to bring in brilliant, hardworking people who create jobs. They will pay a lot of money, and we will reduce our debt with that money.”
Trump announced that his administration will push for major tax cuts “for everyone.” Pointing to the Democrats, he said he was sure they would vote for these tax cuts, calling it “the greatest economy in history.”
He declared that he has signed an order making English the official language of the United States and renaming the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America.”
Trump also stated that he has “ended the tyranny of so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion policies” across the federal government, private sector, and U.S. military.
“Our country will no longer be woke,” he said.
This speech was widely criticized for multiple false claims and controversial proposals, with economists and political analysts warning of the potential long-term consequences of Trump’s policies.
