Ingredients:
For the cake:
1 cup melted butter
2 cups glucose syrup
4 large eggs, chilled
2 tablespoons powdered vanilla
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
About 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
For the sauce:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, cubed
1/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
In a bowl, cream the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix well after each addition.
Pour the batter into a greased and floured 25 cm (10-inch) baking pan, filling it to the top.
Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 55–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Run a knife along the edges, then turn it out onto a wire rack placed over a sheet of wax paper.
To prepare the sauce:
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, butter, and water.
Melt the butter and stir the sugar without bringing it to a boil. Mix everything until smooth.
Once the cake has cooled slightly, poke holes in the top and pour 1/4 cup of the sauce over it. Let it soak in.
